Entertainment | Resident Evil: The Final Chapter

After nearly a five year absence, the Resident Evil franchise is back in cinemas with a disappointing limited release for its sixth and final instalment. Resident Evil could be considered the original Walking Dead, spanning over 15 years in cinemas. These movies will never be Academy Award winners but for me, have always delivered in terms of entertainment value.
After following the series for a number of years, it was great to finally see Milla Jovovich’s protagonist Alice finally embarking on taking down the evil Umbrella corporation for good. The plot was a little thin in places but the film was decent overall with the addition of a good few ‘jump scares’ (mostly due to Odeon’s booming sound system). There were a few familiar faces back too but I would have preferred to have seen more returning characters rather than the addition of Ruby Rose whose character is rather forgetful and really for the sake of a big celebrity name.

I think this film would be pretty meaningless if you haven’t watched any of the previous instalments but definitely worth seeing in cinemas if you’re a fan. Even picking up the boxset of past films would be a good way to spend a weekend if you like zombies. Resident Evil was a bit like Harry Potter for me,  I could return to the cinema to watch another part to the story year after year for quite a long time. It's a franchise that I will certainly miss. It was not a spectacular end to the franchise but certainly a good one.

Have you seen the latest Resident Evil? If so, I'd love to hear your thoughts on it!
